“Professor Larocque's mad enthusiasm for contemporary art and his confidence in his students’ abilities have made this class a joy to attend. His class has inspired me greatly to find my unique artistic path and I would not be where I am today if it wasn't for him”. Nancy Brandsma (Ottawa, Canada)
Now only offered onlineAn Art Class in Ottawa | “Rendering the invisible, visible”
Winter 2024 | Starts on January 17th – Wednesdays from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm
During the pandemic, this art class at the Ottawa School of Art (Canada) was offered in hybrid mode (online and in-person sessions). It is now offered online only. For those at ease in their medium who are at a turning point in their painting culture. What should I paint? Why I am repeating? Why am I imitating? Where lies my creativity? In brief, how can I become genuine as an emerging artist? It is within this framework that we will try, together, to answer these questions, crucial to art-making. This art class in Ottawa is already in its 18th year!
“In the last decade of my long career in teaching drawing, painting, and art history, I came to realize the tremendous progress made in the sphere of art education through our school systems, museums, mass media and, of course, the Internet. Therefore, I have a moral responsibility to evolve in my teaching, since the student-artists are much more aware of techniques, mixing media, and color theory. However, the same problem remains: What should I paint, how and why? This course addresses this problem!” (Yves M. Larocque, Walk the Arts’ director)
